  • Vaginal Culture: This test involves collecting a sample from the vagina to detect the presence of bacteria, fungi, or other microorganisms. Vaginal cultures are commonly performed to diagnose vaginal infections such as bacterial vaginosis, yeast infections, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
  • Valproic Acid (Dipropylacetic Acid): Valproic acid is a medication used to treat epilepsy, bipolar disorder, and migraines. This test measures the level of valproic acid in the blood to ensure it is within the therapeutic range and to monitor for potential toxicity.
  • Vanillylmandelic Acid (VMA): VMA is a metabolite of catecholamines such as adrenaline and noradrenaline. This test measures the level of VMA in urine and is used as a marker for certain neuroendocrine tumors, particularly those derived from the adrenal glands (pheochromocytomas).
  • Vancomycin: Vancomycin is an antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections, including those caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). This test measures the level of vancomycin in the blood to ensure it is within the therapeutic range and to monitor for potential toxicity.
  • Varicella Zoster IgG: This test detects antibodies against the varicella-zoster virus (VZV), which causes chickenpox and shingles. IgG antibodies indicate past exposure to the virus or vaccination, providing immunity against future infections.
  • Varicella Zoster IgM: IgM antibodies are produced in response to a recent or acute infection with the varicella-zoster virus (VZV). This test detects IgM antibodies in the blood and is used to diagnose acute varicella (chickenpox) or reactivation of the virus (shingles).
  • Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF): VEGF is a signaling protein involved in angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels. This test measures the level of VEGF in the blood or tissue. Elevated levels of VEGF may indicate conditions such as cancer, diabetic retinopathy, or age-related macular degeneration.
  • VDRL (Venereal Disease Research Laboratory): VDRL is a blood test used to screen for syphilis, a sexually transmitted infection caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum. The test detects antibodies produced by the body in response to syphilis infection.
  • VDRL RPR (Rapid Plasma Reagin): Similar to the VDRL test, the RPR test is also used to screen for syphilis. It detects antibodies against the bacterium Treponema pallidum in the blood.
  • Vigabatrin: Vigabatrin is an antiepileptic medication used to treat epilepsy, particularly in cases of refractory seizures. This test measures the level of vigabatrin in the blood to ensure it is within the therapeutic range and to monitor for potential toxicity.
  • Viral Encephalitis Panel: This panel consists of various tests used to detect viral infections that cause encephalitis, inflammation of the brain. The panel may include tests for specific viruses such as herpes simplex virus (HSV), varicella-zoster virus (VZV), enteroviruses, and others.
  • Vitamin A (Retinol): Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin that plays a crucial role in vision, immune function, and cellular communication. This test measures the level of vitamin A in the blood to assess nutritional status and diagnose deficiencies or toxicities.
  • Vitamin B1 (Thiamine): Vitamin B1, also known as thiamine, is a water-soluble vitamin that is essential for energy metabolism and nerve function. This test measures the level of vitamin B1 in the blood to assess nutritional status and diagnose deficiencies.
  • Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin): Vitamin B2, also known as riboflavin, is a water-soluble vitamin that plays a key role in energy metabolism, cellular growth, and the metabolism of fats, drugs, and steroids. This test measures the level of vitamin B2 in the blood to assess nutritional status and diagnose deficiencies.
  • Vitamin B3 (Niacin): Niacin, also known as vitamin B3, is a water-soluble vitamin that plays a crucial role in energy metabolism, DNA repair, and the synthesis of certain hormones. This test measures the level of niacin in the blood to assess nutritional status and diagnose deficiencies.
  • Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine): Pyridoxine, also known as vitamin B6, is a water-soluble vitamin involved in numerous biochemical reactions in the body, including amino acid metabolism, neurotransmitter synthesis, and hemoglobin formation. This test measures the level of vitamin B6 in the blood to assess nutritional status and diagnose deficiencies.
  • Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid): Ascorbic acid, also known as vitamin C, is a water-soluble vitamin with antioxidant properties. It plays a vital role in collagen synthesis, wound healing, immune function, and iron absorption. This test measures the level of vitamin C in the blood to assess nutritional status and diagnose deficiencies.
  • Vitamin E (Tocopherol): Tocopherol, also known as vitamin E, is a fat-soluble vitamin with antioxidant properties. It protects cell membranes from damage caused by free radicals and helps maintain healthy skin, eyes, and immune function. This test measures the level of vitamin E in the blood to assess nutritional status and diagnose deficiencies.
  • Vitamin H (Biotin): Biotin, also known as vitamin H or vitamin B7, is a water-soluble vitamin that plays a key role in energy metabolism, fatty acid synthesis, and the metabolism of amino acids and glucose. This test measures the level of biotin in the blood to assess nutritional status and diagnose deficiencies.
  • Vitamin K: Vitamin K is a fat-soluble vitamin that plays a crucial role in blood clotting and bone metabolism. This test measures the level of vitamin K in the blood to assess nutritional status and diagnose deficiencies.
  • VLDL Cholesterol (Very Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol): VLDL cholesterol is a type of cholesterol carried in the blood by lipoproteins. It contains a high proportion of triglycerides and is considered a “bad” cholesterol because high levels are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. This test measures the level of VLDL cholesterol in the blood as part of lipid profile testing.
  • Von Willebrand Factor Activity: Von Willebrand factor (VWF) is a protein that plays a crucial role in blood clotting by helping platelets adhere to damaged blood vessels. This test measures the activity of VWF in the blood to assess its function. Low levels of VWF activity can lead to bleeding disorders such as von Willebrand disease.
  • Von Willebrand Factor Antigen (Factor 8 Associated Antigen): This test measures the level of von Willebrand factor antigen in the blood. Von Willebrand factor antigen is a protein that serves as a marker for the presence of von Willebrand factor in the blood. It is often used in conjunction with VWF activity testing to diagnose von Willebrand disease and other bleeding disorders.
  • VRE Culture (Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus): This test involves culturing samples, typically from body fluids or tissues, to detect the presence of enterococcal bacteria that are resistant to the antibiotic vancomycin. Vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) are a type of bacteria that can cause serious infections, particularly in hospitalized patients.
  • (Vücut Kitle Endeksi) Body Mass Index (BMI): BMI is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to adult men and women. It is calculated by dividing weight in kilograms by the square of height in meters (kg/m^2). BMI is used as a screening tool to assess whether a person is underweight, normal weight, overweight, or obese.
  • Varicella-Zoster Virus (VZV): VZV is a herpesvirus that causes two distinct diseases: chickenpox (varicella) and shingles (herpes zoster). This test may refer to laboratory testing for antibodies to VZV, which can indicate past infection or vaccination. It may also refer to viral culture or molecular testing to detect the presence of VZV in clinical specimens.
