Weil-Felix Agglutination Test: The Weil-Felix agglutination test is a serological test used to diagnose certain rickettsial infections, such as those caused by Rickettsia species. This test relies on the detection of antibodies in the patient’s serum that cross-react with antigens from certain Proteus bacteria. The antibodies, known as Weil-Felix antibodies, can agglutinate (clump together) the Proteus bacteria in the presence of the patient’s serum. While this test has been historically used for diagnosis, it has limitations in sensitivity and specificity and is not considered the most reliable method for detecting rickettsial infections.
